The recently published Traveler’s Guide to the Core Worlds listed Abregado-rae as ”...a backwater Outer-Rim-style world, complete with oppressive government and rampant piracy, right here in the Core Worlds region.” The guide’s description of the world was, gently put, generous. Abregado-rae is a paradise for smugglers and bandits, and despite it’s pleasant, temperate climes and lovely canal-strewn cities, the planet is a wretched place both to visit and to live.
This is one of the most infamous spaceports in the galaxy. The entire city is quite pleasant to the untrained eye, but few such people would last long in this city. There is a network of canals that interconnect the different boroughs of the city.
Renowned galaxywide for its unspoiled beauty, Alderaan is home to more than eight thousand subspecies of grass and an even larger number of wildflowers. Its flora also includes a massive variety of spices, herbs, and grains. Alderaanian culture values education, the performing and fine arts, and peaceful resolutions to conflicts. They place high value in their participation in the Galactic Senate, During the Mandalorian Wars, the planet was threatened with invasion by the forces of Cassus Fett, but the entire invasion force was prematurely decimated, due to misuse of an ancient Sith artifact, the Muur Talisman, which disappeared sometime after the incident.
Aldera is the capital city of Alderaan. It is located in the mountains of the planet, on an island at the center of a lake. In addition to being the home of the University of Alderaan and the Aldera Universal Medcenter, the capital includes the Aldera Royal Palace as well as the center of Alderaanian government.
The University of Alderaan is the main center of learning on the planet Alderaan. It is the most prestigious academy of higher learning in the Galactic Republic. The main campus is shown above, on Aldera, where over a quarter-million students attend. Elsewhere throughout the Core Worlds, satellite campuses handle the educational needs of over a million further Republic citizens.
Corellians are often considered intrepid and maverick by other Core peoples, spawning expressions warning against telling a Corellian the odds for success; for a Corellian, beating the odds is always a reward in itself. The Corellians are known for their prowess with ships. From building ships to flying them, Corellians are well known for their skills. Because piracy and smuggling ware well-known occupations of a strong number of Corellians, the local navy specializes in techniques designed to combat economic loss due to their activities. Because of this need, the navy is well-developed and modernized. Most Corellian-made ships, even military-grade ones, are available for private purchase, a testament to the pioneering spirit of Corellians.
Often referred to as “The Jewel of Corellia,” Coronet is a bustling urban metropolis located on the coast of the southernmost continent. It is a technologically advanced city with beautiful architecture. In keeping with Corellia’s spacefaring heritage, Coronet’s spaceport is second to none. Coronet is also home to the headquarters of CorSec (Corellian Security).
During the Mandalorian War, a large number of Republic naval vessels required heavy repairs. The Corellian city of Tyr jumped at the opportunity to infuse his region with new business. Thus the Dry Docks of Tyr were built in a record 22 days, and began handling incoming repairs for starfighters, transports, and even capital ships less than a month after breaking ground.
Commonly known as the “Queen of the Core”, Coruscant is the central hub of politics within the Galactic Republic. It is the most politically important world in the Galaxy. The leaders of both the Republic and the Jedi Order reside on this world, which is home to a planet-wide metropolis and over a trillion permanent residents.
The seat of politics within the Galactic Republic, the Senate Building was the venue through which all legislative acts were carried out in the name of the citizens of the Republic. At its center is a great rotunda, the Grand Convocation Chamber, from which senators and representatives from every member world of the Republic could meet and debate the future of their individual worlds and the galaxy as a whole.
Dathomir is an obscure planet in the Outer Rim Territories, located in the Quelii sector. A temperate and beautiful planet with a varied terrain that includes coastal lakes and tar-pits, thick forests and snow-capped mountain peaks, powerful rivers and broad savannas, nine-tenths of the planet remains unexplored and uninhabited, with the population limited to a relatively small area along the edge of one of the three main continents. The culture most closely associated with Dathomir were the ancient Kwi, a species said to have evolved from another race that once been a part of a vast, galaxy-wide empire before the dawn of the Old Republic.
Dantooine was chosen by Jedi Master Odan Urr to be the site of a Jedi Enclave, an outer-rim temple and headquarters for certain members of the Jedi High Council. Dantooine is a pleasant world of grasslands, rivers and lakes. While the Republic by itself had virtually no military on the planet, the settlers were protected by the Jedi Order. For some, Dantooine represented the rare bright spot in the otherwise dark region of the galaxy known as the Outer Rim Worlds.
The Jedi Enclave is a secret Jedi academy located on Dantooine. As on Coruscant, Force-sensitive children are referred to the Jedi Council here as well, to be considered for Jedi training. The Jedi Enclave was established by Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Baas, forty years prior to the Mandalorian Wars. He oversaw the academy himself until he was killed in the Great Sith War by Exar Kun, to whom he himself had taught the ways of the Force; responsibility was then conferred to a Council of four Jedi Masters, who counted among them a number of prominent members in the history of the Jedi Order. Likewise, some of the Order’s most promising Padawans are sent to the Enclave, and indeed these students of the force turn out to change the face of the galaxy for good or ill.
Kamino, called Planet of Storms, is the watery world inhabited by a race of tall, elegant beings called the Kaminoans. The Kaminoans kept to themselves and were known for their cloning technology. Being somewhat secluded from the rest of the galaxy, little is known about the origin of the Kaminoans. Throughout its history, the location and very existence of Kamino was known to only a handful of beings, becoming known to members of the Galactic Republic as late as 4,500 BBY. In 3,996 BBY, following the devastation of Ossus, a number of artifacts saved from Ossus were hidden in the ruins of Derem City by Jedi Master Qalsneek the Bull.
Empress Teta, also known as Koros Major, Koros, and Cinnagar, is an ecumenopolis world in the Deep Core. It is named after the Koros system’s ruler Empress Teta, who unified the system following the Unification Wars in 5,000 BBY. Koros Major is a city-planet located in the outer shell of the galaxy’s Deep Core, directly galactic south of Coruscant. With over half its landmass covered by its capital Cinnagar, and vast reserves of carbonite that made the backbone of Empress Teta’s economy, the planet is the center of galactic civilization in the Deep Core. In 3,997 BBY, two descendants of Empress Teta, Satal and Aleema Keto, fell to the dark side of the Force and formed a cult they named the Krath. After getting the Tetan military into their pocket, the Ketos staged a coup against Satal’s parents, the rulers of the system. The planet is currently in a period of reconstruction after the fall of the Krath.
Korriban is the original homeworld of the Sith species and a sacred planet for the Sith Order, housing the tombs for many ancient and powerful Dark Lords of the Sith, and containing immense dark side power. After the Hundred Year Darkness, the remaining Dark Jedi interbred with the Sith species and ruled the Sith using their Force powers. After the Great Hyperspace War, Korriban was abandoned and became a barren world. Korriban was resettled prior to 3,993 BBY by Dark Jedi survivors of the Exar Kun War, and was home to the new settlement of Dreshdae and a Sith training academy.
The Valley of the Dark Lords, also known as Valley of the Sith Lords is a valley and burial ground of Korriban’s Sith Lords. Notable lords to be buried in the valley include Ajunta Pall, Marka Ragnos and Tulak Hord. On several occasions, dead Sith become Force ghosts and haunt their tomb.
Dreshdae is a settlement on the planet Korriban. After the Great Sith War, it became somewhat of a capital for the planet, providing a tavern called The Drunk Side with criminal activities, trade, transport docking, smuggling runs, erotic entertainment, hangouts for bounty hunters, mercenaries, assassins, and Sith trainees from the Sith Academy nearby.
Malachor V is an Outer Rim planet located in the Malachor system. Prior to the final battle of the Mandalorian Wars, the planet was fertile and hospitable. After the cataclysm caused by the Mass Shadow Generator, it became a cracked and twisted wasteland covered with jagged cliffs and plagued by constant lightning storms. It is inhabited by monstrous storm beasts. The gravity of the planet is unstable, which makes it dangerous for starships to stay there for very long. Vague reports have established that an ancient branch of the Sith, calling itself the True Sith, constructed a Sith academy on the planet’s surface. In time the Academy, and Malachor itself, became a place of great power within the dark side of the Force. At some point in time the empire of the True Sith disintegrated, and they retreated further back into the Unknown Regions, seemingly abandoning and forgetting their stronghold on Malachor V.
The Trayus Academy is an ancient Sith academy located on the planet Malachor V. The Jedi Knight Revan discovered the abandoned structure during the Mandalorian Wars. The buried relics of Sith civilization that he uncovered there paved the way for his fall to the dark side. It is conjectured that, after the fall of Mandalore the Ultimate, Revan went into the Unknown Regions in order to seek out the True Sith that had built the Trayus Academy. Despite the devastation on Malachor V, the Trayus Academy currently serves as the headquarters of the Sith Triumvirate and the training ground for Sith Assassins. These Sith are not affiliated with Darth Revan’s Sith Armada, but the Dark Lord of the Sith is keenly aware of their existence, and has plans on dealing with this Sith Triumvirate soon enough.
Manaan is an aquatic planet and the home to the Selkath, an amphibious species. The planet is completely covered in water and is the only known source of the healing liquid, kolto, in the galaxy. In the years leading up to and during the Jedi Civil War, kolto was so important to the galaxy that the Selkath were able to use their monopoly to enforce their policy of neutrality and autonomy. The only above-surface settlement on Manaan is the floating Ahto City
Ahto City is the capital city of Manaan. As the entire surface of Manaan is covered with water, Ahto City is the only above-surface city on the entire planet. The city was only built to accommodate the offworlders that came to Manaan. The main export of Manaan is the healing liquid, kolto. The kolto is collected and distributed by the Selkath, who ship it off-world from Ahto City.
Muunilinst, nicknamed Moneylend, is the temperate, mineral-rich Muun homeworld and the headquarters of the InterGalactic Banking Clan. Muunilinst is a lush world of forests, plains, and tall, jagged mountain peaks. The tall, gaunt Muuns were famous for their financial acumen, mathematical genius, and greed. Muun children could calculate complex formulas as quickly as most adults of other species. The greatest Muun city was Harnaidan, the headquarters of the IGBC.
Nar Shaddaa is the largest moon of Nal Hutta. More commonly known as the Vertical City, the Smuggler’s Moon and Little Coruscant, Nar Shaddaa is similar to Coruscant in that its surface is entirely overgrown with city spraw. But unlike Coruscant, which is only relatively dangerous on the lower levels of the world-city, Nar Shaddaa is filthy, polluted, and infested with crime throughout. Nar Shaddaa is a criminal haven and has a reputation for being the center of illegal operations in the galaxy, earning the moniker “The Smugglers’ Moon”. Now distant from most galactic trade centers, the moon is allowed to run its own affairs with little outside interference.
The Roche asteroid field is a series of asteroids colonized by the Verpine, including Nickel One (the capital), Slayn, Korpil, Roche G42, and Shantipole. Some believe that the asteroids are the remains of the Verpine homeworld, possibly destroyed by civil war. The Verpine simply claim that they do not know where their homeworld was located. The Roche government is called the Verpine Technocracy. The asteroids are the headquarters of Roche Industries and Slayn & Korpil.
Sullust joined the Galactic Republic when Sullustan merchants connected their planet to Tapani sector with the Rimma Trade Route in 5,500 BBY. The planet was attacked by the Krath in an attack led by Sith Lord Sazha Rand during the Great Sith War, but Sullust was successfully defended by the Galactic Republic. The world is volatile with hundreds of active volcanoes, producing a noxious, toxic atmosphere and intense electrical storms. These conditions, combined with the planet’s rich mineral deposits, cause the native Sullustan inhabitants to live in underground caves. The underground caves are humid and cool, with a diverse biosphere supported by underground lakes.
Telos IV is situated on the strategically-important Hydian Way hyperlane, on the edge of Galactic Republic-controlled space. As such, the Telosian military and economic power bases are considered vital to the survival of the Republic. In addition, the planet plays host to the Agricultural Corps, where Jedi who fail their training are sent to work as farmers and laborers.
