Bio:

Hokura was raised on Thyrsus in an Echani enclave until the age of seven, when her Force sensitivity was discovered. Seeing her Force abilities as an unfair advantage, the Echani of her enclave disowned her. However, she had already earned possession of a rare, beautiful Echani foil, the White Wind. It, and her amazing martial skills, would be all she would take when she left Thyrsus forever.

Brought to a Jedi training center on Alderaan, Hokura was a disciplined student only under very specific circumstances. She was loathe to sit idly, reading, listening, so she began to develop exercise techniques that could be done covertly, her instructors unaware that she was barely paying their words heed. This would be her undoing, however, when it came time for her Padawan tests. Rather than a mixed approach to the test, involving both scholastic and athletic knowledge, the test’s proctor chose to limit her to three questions, each one of which only a student who had truly paid attention to their lessons could answer.

Despondent, Hokura left the academy, considering herself a failure both as an Echani and as a Jedi. However, Jedi Master Aphis Zur approached her, offering her another opportunity. Of the students enrolled at the Jedi Academy on the Broadsword, Hokura was considered Most Likely to Succeed. She had very few demerits in her file, and with the exception of failing one test, she was considered a model student. In fact, the council was tempted to just allow her to become a Padawan despite failing the test, but Master Zur asked instead that she act as the control group of the Broadsword experiment.

During her training on the Broadsword, she was more determined than ever to succeed. The instructors made it clear that the life of a Jedi was one of a narrow destiny. As the classes continued, Fenni began to form a rivalry with another student, Ven Jagt, whose combat tactics betrayed him to be a Mandalorian. Hokura plainly called Ven out in front of the other members of the class, challenging him to a fight. The instructor, Kabi-Do Raikun, cautioned Hokura not to create trouble where none need exist, just to sate her desire to face a school rival. He warned that to act on impulse, based on emotion rather than logic, was a sure path the the Dark Side of the Force.

Even as Fenni decided to let it go, Ven shocked the whole class by standing up and insulting the Jedi, calling them simpering cowards unwilling to assert themselves, and unworthy of the power they possessed. Fenni and a few others attempted to subdue Ven, but he was too fast, too strong, and too determined. Ven pulled off a vicious combination attack on Fenni that bloodied her nose and bruised her ribcage. He even got the better of Master Kabi-Do, making a daring escape in a stolen Aurek Strikefighter.

Not long thereafter, the Broadsword’s contingent of Republic starfighter pilots succeeded in stopping Ven Jagt’s escape. They brought him back into the ship, but his body had suffered tremendous burn damage, and he was shortly later pronounced dead. The experience left Hokura Fenni shaken, but with a sudden sense of clarity. Though she still harbored resentment for Ven, even posthumously, she could not deny there was some truth to his words. She met with the Headmaster in secret, while the other students were given time to remember and reflect. Fenni asked if there was any way to remove her Force sensitivity so that she could forge her own destiny free from its direct influence. The Headmaster revealed that such exiles are usually reserved as punishment, not requested as terms of resignation. Fenni still wished for her powers to be stripped from her, but after receiving further council from Ko’Dora Vadis and the holocron of Odan Urr, she decided instead to practice a form of meditation designed to supress one’s Force sensitivity.

She left the Broadsword without saying goodbye. Though she did like a few of the students, she never really got close to any of them, and she doubted they would appreciate a long and sorrowful goodbye. Instead, she returned to Thyrsus, her childhood home, and enrolled herself in the Echani Combat Forces. Soon thereafter, she fought in a tournament for the opportunity to accompany former General Yusanis to Coruscant as he took his place as the elected Senator of Thyrsus. Fenni’s combat prowess won her the right to serve as one of Senator Yusanis’s personal guards.
